Last night I had the coolest experience. As a lot of you know, I come from a really big family -- 7 siblings -- and most of my brothers and sisters are a LOT older than me. As a result, I have nieces and nephews very close to me in age. One of my nephews, Aaron, is 25. He has been involved in bands since junior highschool, forming numerous bands and doing everything from playing lead guitar to bass to lead vocals. I wouldn't be surprised if he's done drums at some point as well, actually, he's that musically talented.

Anyway, a few months ago he joined a band named Canada, based in the Detroit area. They've a record contract with an indie label. A week and a half ago they released their first full-length CD and it was distributed by their label to all of the college radio stations throughout the country. As it turns out, their CD was the most requested CD of any new band in the country last week and the band has now been featured on several magazine covers. *squeeks*

Last night Canada were playing one of their rare local gigs at a bar in East Lansing, so three of my sisters and I, as well as another nephew -- Aaron's brother -- went to see them play. They were absolutely fantastic! I've seen a lot of his bands and I'm not afraid to say that most of them have been shite. But these guys were amazing! They include cello's, a harpsichord, and some funky electronic keyboard that you blow into to play, as well as the traditional drums, bass guitar, keyboards, lead guitar, and vocals. And they are so incredibly high energy, especially my nephew, who was like a wild man, all over the stage. I was completely blown away. The other bands that played, including some who have been around quite a long time and have a bit of a name for themselves sounded like amateurs in comparison. *squeeks more* I immediately ran to the merchandise table and bought their CD. I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet, but if it's anything like last night's show I'm going to be delighted with it.

Last week while they were playing in NYC, a second promotor approached them and asked to work with them. So they've two promotors now, a record deal, the top-requested CD in the nation for college radio last week, and two magazine covers to their credit, all just within the last few weeks. Things seem to be happening for them and I am beside myself with delight. See, my nephew is one of the sweetest people you could ever hope to meet. He is so kind-hearted and funny and down-to-earth. I adore him, and to see him finally succeeding is just so sweet.

Anyway, if you hear that Canada is going to be playing in your area, check them out. They are a delight to see. *is proud auntie*
