Meme Fun

This is how it works: Comment on this entry and I will give you a letter. Write ten words beginning with that letter in your journal, including an explanation what the word means to you and why, and then pass out letters to those who want to play along.

I got the letter C:

1. Champagne: Celebrations, excitement, happiness, and one-half of the ingredients to one of my favorite drinks, the Black Velvet. For our wedding reception we had a set limit we had to spend at or above in order to book the room, and we didn't meet that limit, so we ended up toasting our wedding at the head table with $100 per bottle champagne. It was sooooo goood. :D

2. Chocolate: There's nothing in this world that chocolate can't fix. I've been lucky enough to have the opportunity to sample a lot of the world's best chocolate, Swiss, Austrian, French... But still my favorite of all remains good ol' Cadbury's.

3. Cadbury's chocolate: See above. Also, Cadbury's always makes me think of Dublin, because the first summer I was there my flatmates and Derek and his family and I would play the cardgame Spite and Malice for hours on end and dole out squares of Cadbury's chocolate to the winner of each game.

4. Christchurch Cathedral. The youth hostel I stayed in for six weeks while I was doing my final research for my thesis at the National Library was across the street, more or less from the Cathedral. It was a pretty sight out the window. Also, when I finally finished my thesis and was getting ready to go to Austria for a ski holiday in celebration, it was New Year's Eve and those bells rang and rang and rang...

5. Comaneci, Nadia. The name of my very favorite gymnast and the one who was my inspiration for years. Three years ago I was lucky enough to be able to attend the World Gymnastics Championships in Anaheim, and Nadia and her husband, Bart Conner, sat directly in front of my for much of the competition. She was constantly surrounded, so I didn't get a chance to talk with her much, but it was a thrill for me to sit near her and to get her signature on a t-shirt.

6. Catholic. I was raised Catholic. I actually really liked being Catholic. I didn't agree with what the high muckety mucks had to say in a lot of cases, but the priest at my local church was just the coolest thing ever. I adored him. We saw eye to eye on virtually everything. Unfortunately, Mark was raised without much religion at all, so the last thing he was willing to do was become Catholic when we got married. So, now we attend a Lutheran Church instead. It's nice, but I still am a Catholic at heart.

7. College football. Specifically, University of Michigan football. It's not a game, it's a religion. :D I grew up watching U of M football and listening to it on the radio when it wasn't televised, every weekend in the fall. I witnessed and enjoyed the Bo Schembechler-Woody Hayes rivalry and the craziness that was "the Ohio State Game". It didn't matter how you did the rest of the year, so long as we beat OSU. Now I've started indoctrinating Devon into the cult. He watched his first Michigan football game with me at the grand age of 4 months old.

8. Collins, Phil and Clark, Steve. The Terror Twins. Two of the best guitar players the world has ever known. And two of the nicest people the world has ever known, as well. I cried for days when Steve died. I felt like the world surely must have tilted on its axis from losing him. But life goes on and he's been gone fifteen years now. R.I.P. Steamin' Steve.

9. California. Mark is from California. Stockton, to be precise. Asparagus capital of the world.

10. Cleveland. Scene of one of the best U2 concerts I have ever attended, and the place where I first met Melissa, Izzy, Joy, Anti, Claire, Shannon, John, and MyMegs. :D
