Very UNHAPPY Friday
So. I'm the person in the office, and probably in all three offices, that has the most seniority and experience. My boss loves my work (so he says) and is thrilled to have me as an employee. So why the hell can't I get another job within the Court of Appeals???

Last time a clerkship came available I didn't even get an interview. This time I got an interview, but have not heard anything except that "letters are going around," meaning the person chosen has been called and the rest of us unlucky sots are getting rejection letters.

Am so upset I could cry. My hubby is unemployed, waiting for results of the bar exam. My job with the Court ends in early January. None of the jobs available make even close to what I make, most of them making 20,000 or more LESS, and we're having trouble paying the bills on my current salary. I NEEDED this job. Jobs in the court rarely come available. Why the hell am I not succeeding????? *cries and pounds desk* This was NOT the kind of day I wanted to be having...

Oh crap, I'm sorry NV...Maybe M. can get a temporary job? Maybe you can try applying to work for the court in a closeby town? I'll be online tonight and this weekend, so IM me when you get on and I'll try to be continue to be extra stupid to make you laugh.

Thank you so much girl. *snuggles* I'm just so frustrated... And can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I've never had trouble getting jobs before, and now suddenly I can't even get interviews much less a job. There is a temporary clerkship position opening up at the court of appeals, for a judge whose secretary is going out on maternity leave, and my boss has told me that if I get it then he'll add the number of weeks I do the clerkship onto my time left in Prehearing, so I might actually be able to stay at the court until February sometime. And he told me that while I was out on maternity leave, that this judge (the one who needs a temporary clerk) called and requested I do a draft opinion for a case he was authoring the opinion on for publication, because he was so impressed with my work on the report in that case (it was the awful tax millages case I had awhile back). So there's hope that I might actually get this one. Won't be a permanent position, in all likelihood, unless his clerk suddenly decides not to return, but at least it will give me an additional six to twelve weeks at the court. Actually, now that I think about it, I think a friend of mine might be his current clerk -- that could help me as well.

I've not been able to consider clerkships at state trial courts in the area, because they make $20,000 less than I am making, and without M. guaranteed a job, we can't survive on that. But there are three prosecutor positions available that I will apply for, one in Lansing, so maybe I can do that.....

Anyway, thanks for replying and brightening my day. I will definitely IM you when I get online tonight. HUGS!!!!!

*hugs tight* I'm sorry. Maybe you can get a different sort of job while you're looking?

*nuzzles and whimpers* I might have to. Who would've thought that getting a decent paying job as an attorney would be so hard? Even the law firm jobs for new/relatively new lawyers are offering "competitive" salaries of $20,000 less than what I make currently. I never realized the court of appeals paid so well! I thought I was taking only a modest salary, as lawyer salaries go, in order to work regular hours doing research instead of having to go to court all day. Who knew! Thanks for the sympathy, and congratulations on the new job. I hope it works out well for you!

I'll cross our fingers for both of us.

I'm so sorry, hon. Why didn't you tell me this when we were chatting last night? *massive hugs*

well, mostly 'cause I'd calmed down by the time we talked. But thanks so much! *hugs back*
